Industrial IoT - Data Collection and Analysis

Industrial IoT (IIoT) refers to the ecosystem of devices, sensors, applications, and network elements that work together to collect and analyze data from industrial technologies.

The purpose of such a system is twofold: on one hand, it enhances oversight of critical technology components, facilitating problem-solving or even preventing issues entirely. On the other hand, this data helps improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety.

Our approach to this issue is based on a cyclical principle consisting of four steps:

1. Selection and Deployment of IIoT Sensors
2. Connection and Data Collection
3. Monitoring, Analysis, and Data Evaluation
4. Action – Taking Measures

The first three steps are essential foundations for the most crucial step – step 4. This final step ensures that decisions are made based on facts and data, leading to:

  • Increased Equipment/Production Efficiency
    • What is the availability, speed, and quality of machine outputs? What can be improved and how?
  • Reduced Energy Consumption
    • What is the energy consumption during non-production periods? How can it be reduced?
    • Minimized Downtime
Can we predict production-critical issues based on data?
  • Expansion of IIoT Architecture
    • Are additional sensors needed? Is there a need to expand reports, adjust analyses, or add notifications?
    • Returning to step 1, continuous improvement

While IIoT can be viewed as a standalone system, it can easily be integrated with various (including existing) applications such as:

  • SCADA/MES – Monitoring and controlling manufacturing operations
  • OEE – Overall Equipment Effectiveness
  • Condition Monitoring – Predictive maintenance
  • EMS – Energy Management Systems
  • BMS – Building Management Systems
  • DCIM – Data Center Infrastructure Management
  • Others…
